An aftermarket shifter can shorten or sharpen movement, but it cannot repair a clutch that does not release, damaged synchronizers, weak hydraulics, or failed mounts. Diagnose the original complaint, install the shifter without preload, preserve isolation where intended, and verify every gear before driving.

Record the original behavior
Note cold versus warm effort, affected gears, engine-on versus engine-off selection, high-rpm behavior, noise, vibration, and clutch-pedal changes. Inspect clutch hydraulics and mounts before blaming the factory shifter.
Save the baseline so the installation can be evaluated honestly.
Inventory the kit
Confirm exact transmission and model-year application, bushings, brackets, fasteners, threadlocker, insulation, reverse-lockout pieces, and adjustment method. Read the whole sequence before removing console trim.
Some components are reused and must not be discarded.
Protect the interior and work safely
Disconnect power if required, protect console surfaces, label electrical connectors, and prevent debris from entering the shift opening. Raise the vehicle only at approved points if underbody access is needed.
Keep exhaust heat and sharp tunnel edges in mind.
Align without binding
Center or align the linkage and support bracket exactly as instructed. Avoid pulling the shifter sideways with bolts or leaving the assembly preloaded by drivetrain position.
Cycle every gear and reverse with the engine off before reassembling trim.
Control noise and verify
Reinstall boots, foam, seals, and insulation in the correct order. Hard mounts and removed isolation can increase normal gear noise and vibration.
Test stationary operation, then a careful low-speed drive. Stop for blocked gears, grinding, unusual heat, or interference.
