A wet front floor in a 2005–2009 Mustang can seem to appear far from the leak. Water follows seams, harnesses, insulation, and body contours before it reaches the carpet. The clean diagnostic path begins by preserving the water pattern, checking the cowl and drains, and testing one area at a time instead of coating every seam with sealant.

Preserve the evidence
Photograph the wettest carpet, staining, headliner, trim, kick panels, under-dash area, and the highest point where moisture can be felt. Check whether the water is clear, colored, oily, or has coolant odor.
Do not begin by drying everything. The direction of staining and saturated insulation can point toward the entry path.
Separate water from coolant and condensation
Check coolant level and heater operation, air-conditioning drain behavior, door and window seals, windshield area, cowl, and recent weather or car-wash history. Different sources require different tests.
A sweet smell, colored residue, or oily film suggests a different investigation than clean rainwater after a storm.
Inspect the cowl carefully
Remove leaves and debris gently, protect the windshield edge, and inspect drains, cabin-filter access, covers, grommets, clips, and seals. Designed drains and vents must remain open.
High-pressure air or hard wire can push debris deeper or disconnect a drain. Replace distorted covers and damaged seals rather than forcing them flat.
Water-test in small zones
Use low-volume water beginning at the lowest suspected area while a helper watches inside with trim safely removed. Move upward only after each zone has had time to show a result.
Flooding the entire roof and cowl proves only that water enters somewhere. One-zone testing ties the leak to a specific seam, cover, glass bond, or drain.
Dry and protect the interior
After the source is corrected, lift and dry carpet padding completely. Inspect connectors, grounds, modules, and metal for residue or corrosion, and clean using the approved method.
Repeat the controlled test after reassembly and check again after natural rain. Odor control comes after the structure and insulation are truly dry.
