Confirm application and tune requirement
Match year, engine, throttle body, sensor, hood, strut brace, sound tube, PCV connections, and bumper or inlet configuration. Read whether the kit is designed for stock calibration or requires a specific tune.
Do not start a tune-required combination on an incompatible calibration.
Save a baseline
Record codes, fuel trims or relevant scan data, idle quality, and recent modifications. Inspect the factory intake for cracks, loose clamps, dirty filter, or disconnected hoses that may explain the original symptom.
Disconnect the battery only when the procedure directs it.
Protect the sensor
Transfer the airflow sensor in the correct direction and orientation using the specified seal and fasteners. Avoid touching the sensing element or coating it with excess filter oil.
Inspect connector pins and engage the lock fully.
Seal and support the system
Seat every coupler and PCV or sound-tube connection beyond its sealing bead, align clamps, and keep tubing from rubbing the hood, fan, belts, brake lines, or wiring. Install the shield and inlet pieces that control hot air and water.
Do not remove splash protection unless the engineered kit requires it.
Start, inspect, and relearn
Check for tools, loose clamps, and open ports before starting. Listen for leaks and contact, inspect idle and codes, and follow tune or relearn instructions.
Recheck clamps after heat cycles and stop for abnormal trims, drivability, or warning lamps.
